Desecration: the anti-liturgy

Perhaps grave stuff like this going on, seemingly more and more, is one more reason to put an end to the communal opening of the sanctuary to the laity and the receiving of the Eucharist in the hands. Lets bring back the rail and use such horrible instances of theft/desecration as a reason to enforce receiving on the tongue. Not that it would be a guaranteed measure, but it would be something. You know, time to batten down the hatches and get back to the segregation of sanctuary and nave. Or maybe it would cause these juvenile atheists to go to worse measures. I don't know. But I wonder how much the renovations to (de-solemnizing of) the liturgy has helped to invite such things.
