Three really good articles I have recently read

D.W. Lafferty does a thorough consolidation of the origins and history of LifeSiteNews. I very much agree with his conclusion:

"Practical efforts to make a real difference in the world by helping to protect unborn life would effectively be replaced by apocalyptic fantasies, dualistic thinking, and tactics that are meant to provoke antagonism. Such a movement would only function for the benefit of its adherents, rather than the benefit of the unborn."

Emmett O'Regan writes about the apocalypse streamlining service, Countdown to the Kingdom, how they attempt to wash themselves of their own millenarianism.

"The authors of Countdown to the Kingdom thus attempt to bypass the charge of millenarianism by confining the doctrinal error to the idea of Jesus physically returning in the Flesh, and assert that a spiritual version of Chiliasm is an acceptable teaching that was held by the Early Church Fathers."

Rebecca Bratten Weiss writes about the latent providentialism among Catholics that has been revealed by the pandemic.

"The wave of providentialist unrest in the face of these precautions betrays a perspective on divine will and human reason that is not theologically sound or helpful.

But this type of thinking has percolated in Catholic circles for a while."

Funny, isn't it, how the truly perturbed and deeply shaken prophets who had absolutely zilch to say about children being separated from their parents at the Mexican border - the family members being torn apart without knowing where their children or spouses or moms and dads are - these same truth-warriors waxed paranoid about the persecution of family members being separated from one another because of covid lock-down. The government was breaking apart the families and isolating them!

Separated and truly frightened children in cages: zilch.

But comfortable family members ordered to stay in their comfortable homes and communicate through zoom and phone with each other: I must shout from my rooftop in the manner of the prophets of old! This is persecution!

As such, it is right and good.

These figures, represented under dime-a-dozen state benefactor commemoration bronzes, are repellent not only for who they represent and what that person did, but also in that they feign to make an "official" minting of who that region's benefactor is.

And yet the world just spent the last three months exhausting its cosplaying energies in telling us who the REAL ESSENTIAL WORKERS are that build our civilization and keep it running. In truth, these protestors are not "erasing history". They are removing the "official" historical lie.

Huh, imagine that.

No, you can't have a rather open-ended symbol to yield up to Our Lady and bring a new aspect of understanding her - no. Pachamama is a baby-eating demon!

But the literal racist slave trader murderers who literally committed mass genocide, devouring the actual lives of real living people - yeah, their bronze representation isn't an idol or whitewashing of a lie and it most certainly should not be cast into the river, because NUANCE, it's more nuanced than that, there were many shades, and you know, it was complicated, and he was a complex person.

I remember when I first saw Apocalypto in the theater, there was that scene where the survivors of the attack on the village are taken captive and they're crossing the rapid river. One of the women prays to Ixchel as the children stand abandoned on the shore. She says, "Gentle Ixchel. Tender mother of mercy. Keep them from harm. Please. Keep them."




I remember being so moved by that moment, because of the obvious resonances with the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was like, "I see what Gibson was doing there."
