From the shadows they fed - the wood's edge,
just out from the eaves but not straying from them.

Alerted to the watcher, tranquility broken,
they fled for the trees, as fish strike for the depths.

But one walked out to watch the watcher.
Saplings from his head upon a raised neck.

His family now shadows moving in the woods,
how he guarded with a naked heart!
