My brother-in-law leant me Jordan Peterson's 12 Rules for Life and I stopped halfway through rule 2 and started reading The Lord of the Rings (for the eighth or ninth time) and never looked back.

I don't need Peterson's 12 rules, and The Lord of the Rings is the greatest novel of all time.

Truth be told, this latest reading was the best, the most enthralling, the most...oh Lord, so many aspects came jumping out, characters came alive in a new way; the hard-bitten here-and-now infringing of the deep past into the present; the naked, raw power of that moment on Mount Doom, and all of it, it was just shattering.
