Yes, Merritt (and the Okanagan) affords many such views - deserty. There were really strange boulders in this particular area. Really eaten away with holes and they made me think of the Pukelmen sculptures as described by Tolkien - not per se in looking like Pukelmen, but just the ancient feeling of them.
