I find trees can be both relaxing to observe and scary - in the sense that I think you imply, E, by the realization of their life - often both at the same time.
And yes, I agree, it's difficult to go wrong when drawing them, though I find they are demanding and absorb your attention like a sponge. The real difficulty is in drawing a forest of them.
Trees are such relaxing things to draw and one can't really go wrong.
